"Sometimes it’s the people who no-one imagines anything of, that do the things no-one can imagine” - My name is Phil, I have been working in the disability sector for over eight years. I started my career as I NDIS customer engagement officer, followed by local area coordinator. My most recent job was NDIS specialist service coordinator and registered counsellor.
I also am a person with lived experience as I was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy. However, this has never stopped me from chasing my dreams as I went to university and graduated with a bachelors degree in Criminology, followed by postgraduate certificates Forensic Psychology and Disability Studies. Currently, I am in the middle of a PhD at Griffith University in the field of complex behavioural psychology focusing on paediatrics.
I am somewhat of a workaholic and enjoy studying and being productive. I am also a proud member of NERD culture and have been a avid gamer ever since I was old enough to hold a controller! I have an eidetic memory and can pull quotes from all aspect of pop-culture at the drop of a hat. In 2012, I published a book called ‘Life Is What You Make It’.
I live with my wife Susan and our Siberian Husky Oscar. Susan and I run a non-for profit called ‘Elings Hope Foundation’, an institution which helps families in Kenya send their kids to school. My wife is a Kenyan-born woman who is passionate about women’s health and awareness, which was the birth of our foundation!
